Here is how this works in practice. We run casting for speaking roles, featured players, specialty performers and background across Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca and the Transylvanian towns. Our team works with set up Romanian casting directors who keep working relationships with the country's theatre firms and with UNATC. The national film and theatre university in Bucharest, the source of much of the talent that has carried Romanian cinema worldwide.

Here is the short of it. We prepare character breakdowns, manage self-tape and in-person audition rounds at Bucharest facilities or by remote video, record sessions to a steady standard for client review, and set up callbacks, chemistry reads and wardrobe fittings. For global shoots we handle work-permit records for incoming talent and contract deal-making under Romanian terms. Romania's strength in large period crowds is major: shoots often need hundreds of background performers comfortable in nineteenth-century or earlier dress. We can assemble and manage those numbers from Bucharest and the surrounding region at rates well below Western European equivalents.

Here is the breakdown. Romania carries an unusually rich performance custom for a country its size. The Romanian New Wave brought it sustained global attention, with Cristian Mungiu's '4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days' taking the Palme d'Or at Cannes in 2007, Cristi Puiu's 'The Death of Mr Lazarescu', the work of Corneliu Porumboiu, and Radu Jude's Golden Bear winner 'Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn' in 2021. That movement was built on careful stage training and a naturalistic acting style.

Here is what that looks like on the ground. The same actors move fluidly between domestic features and global service work. Romanian is a Romance language, a Latin island in the region, and many performers also work confidently in English, French, German and other languages. This widens the casting options for co-productions. Transylvania's layered Saxon and Hungarian heritage further means shoots can find performers and faces suited to a range of Central and Eastern European period and today's settings without leaving the country.
