Location Agreements

Here is how this works in practice. We negotiate and administer location agreements for shoots filming across Romania, securing the contractual right to shoot at private, public and heritage sites. Our team works with Romanian entertainment lawyers to draft releases that set out access dates, fees, working hours, alteration and dressing rights, restoration obligations, insurance needs and liability terms, all enforceable under Romanian law. Romania's locations span an unusually wide range of owners.

Here is the short of it. The agreement has to fit each: private landowners in Carpathian villages, city authorities controlling Bucharest's streets and squares, the Orthodox Church for monastery interiors, and the cultural bodies that administer castles such as Bran, Corvin and Peles. We secure the terms a production needs while protecting it from disputes over damage, overrun or scope, and we set up the agreement with the separate filming permits that public-space and heritage shooting needs. Each release is kept audit-ready. This matters because location costs form part of the eligible spend underpinning the CNC cash rebates.

Here is the breakdown. Romania's location agreements are shaped by the depth and sensitivity of the country's heritage. Transylvania alone holds Bran Castle, long marketed as Dracula's Castle, the Gothic-Renaissance Corvin Castle at Hunedoara, the medieval cores of Sibiu, Brașov and UNESCO-listed Sighișoara, and a network of fortified Saxon churches. Sinaia carries the royal Neo-Renaissance Peles Castle. The painted monasteries of Bukovina and the wooden churches of Maramureș are UNESCO-listed and religiously active. Filming at such sites involves conservation conditions, access restrictions and, often, religious or community sensitivities that a well-drafted agreement must respect rather than override.

Here is what that looks like on the ground. Many of these sites have hosted global shoots before, the Conjuring-universe horror 'The Nun' shot at Corvin Castle, so their custodians know film agreements. But the terms still need careful deal-making. A clear, locally enforceable location agreement protects both the production and the heritage it is privileged to use.
